When did we fall in love with fashion?

Ashanta: It all started around 7 years old when my mom would take me with her to T.J. Maxx. At the time we lived in New Jersey and she worked part-time at T.J. This only helped to fuel her love for shopping and fashion. I would describe my mother’s style as timeless and classic. Definitely a feature that I embrace in my own style today. My mom always tells me, “…not to buy into trends but to collect pieces that will last a lifetime.” Of course there are some trends that I just can’t help but fall in love with. Another aspect of my mother’s style that I have adopted as my own is her love for accessories. Bags, shoes, and jewelry! When I go shopping for clothes I always end up with a bag that I do not need but can’t live without!

Meserat: My passion for fashion all started in middle school when I would spend hours looking through fashion magazines and putting outfits together in my head. I truly believe that I inherited this love from my mom. When she came to the States her goal was to become a fashion designer and although she isn’t a designer her style is somewhat embedded in me. My inspiration or muse is going through my mother’s old pictures; I have actually gotten a lot of ideas from them!  I would describe my style as eclectic. Here’s my definition of fashion…Fashion: it’s one without definition or boundaries, it’s simply YOU. One of my favorite pastimes is putting different outfits together and mixing and matching different patterns and colors together to see what works. So as creative director I hope to give you a taste of my flair. Hope you enjoy and welcome to THE FASHION CAGE ;)
